I’m sure most of you guys have already seen them but that’s no reason not to post these pieces of creediesque archeology and discuss them in good company. These concept arts from 2004 – three years before the release of Assassin’s Creed – and are the work of Khai Nguyen. If you’ve missed them, you might want to check them out. It even gives some ideas of the features that were originally envisioned (some where implemented in latter games, such as the horse riding.)

These kind of scares me in a good way: how long ago, before 2007, was the idea for Assassin’s Creed placed on the table? Or these are things inspired from Prince of Persia in a way or another?
It looks strange that these concept arts are like too close to the concept of the AC Universe like the hidden blade and the missing finger…

Amazingly, this stuff dates back to 2004. But yes, the concept was undoubtedly birthed by POP’s Hassansins who were inspired by the real life Ḥashshāshīn. It makes sense since Patrice was heavily involved with that franchise beforehand.

these are really amazing, I love this painterly style
I’m really curious of what program they used while drawing this, Photohop? Painter?

love all the art work. and funny how accurate the hood flops over the forehead the way it does over mine.

the program don’t matter, depends on the brush and the settings used

Concept seems to have children on the streets but the games don’t, apart from certain cutscenes. :/

I always love seeing concept art for things. Its interesting to see how ideas started and how they have changed.

I love the one with two Assassins hiding, ready for the kill. I’d love it if Ubi included Co-op in an AC game.

Seriously looks like a more violent Prince of Persia concept. Nice.

They (Patrice, Jade, Raphael, et al) touch on some of these concepts in the limited edition artbook for the first game. I think there’s even some Pre-AC art that you don’t see here but will find in the book. Just saying, for those that didn’t know and want to check it out.

Are these arts included in any Art Book of AC1?
Al said on October 11, 2012
One of them was included in the AC1 LE artbook. But as for the rest, they were probably only revealed in the artbook that was only given to devs (revealed by Jerociraptor).
