The universe of Assassin’s Creed puts you in the middle of an ancient war between two age old factions – The Assassins who fight to protect free will among the populace, and the templars, who wish to impose a new order. Throughout history, these two groups have been fighting for the fate of humanity. Now, in 2012, the templars are close to realizing their dream of dominion through powerful ancient artifacts known collectively as pieces of Eden, they have power to – among other things – influence the human mind and control the masses. With the development of the animus, a machine that allows for the projection of genetic memories buried deep within a subject’s DNA, the Abstergo Corporation, a templar front, begins abducting persons of Assassin lineage in the hopes of locating these lost artifacts.
