    here’s an interesting read…

    http://www.videogamer.com/xbox360/assassins_creed/features/article/assassins_creed_iii_the_problem_with_desmond.html

though i agree on some of his points, i still believe desmond’s role in ac3 will be great enough to give a satisfying experience with the narrative.

hmmm… come to think of it, what if ubisoft meant ac3 is meant to wrap up desmond’s current storyline?

I kind of agree with the article, I had hoped for way more Desmond gameplay in ACIII and it seems it’s more of Connor gameplay…

also as I said I actually hope it wraps up Desmonds story but as things stand (and as stated in this article) we aren’t really that ‘connected’ to him so there would have to be more Dessy gameplay before there could be a great ending of hi8s story

we did manage to play as Desmond (more or less) in the DLC. of course i didn’t finish it. i found the process somewhat nauseating and frustrating when i was getting zapped by all those laser and falling into the abyss.  :P

yeah I agree with some points – Desmond’s part had gone a bit stagnant as too much focus has gone into the ancestor’s. While I do want an end to the dragging out of the modern day plot (seriously, four games and they’ve not really progressed far) I don’t really want it to be entirely wrapped up for Desmond and the others because, even though as that article stated we’ve not really learnt enough to grow too attached to Desmond & co, I actually want the modern day story to finally get something meaty to it. I like the characters and the setting and all that but it really needs some fattening in the narrative.

@looneytexan if you mean the Lost Archives DLC then its not actually clear that its Desmond’s playing through 16′s memories. Especially as to access those memories you go through that game’s main menu and not the in game menu where you access all of the ancestor’s memories…

@mysticheero my bad. i don’t mean the DLC but the fragments we collect across istanbul that allows us to explore desmond’s story.

i just hope that if desmond’s story does wrap up with ac3 it gives us a satisfying explanation on his life before the events of ac1 and and how he will accomplish – with all the minute details possible – what he is supposed to do.

but considering as well what was told by mcdevitt back in revelations about his unique ancestry as a descendant of many assassins, i have a feeling his story will go on even if his story arc does end with with ac3. how? well, remember “the son theory” as explored by 16′s words to him in acb? the “your son…” statement points to a strong possibility desmond will have a son who, in addition to desmond’s memories, will also be able to access the memories of desmond’s ancestors. with who, well, that remains to be revealed, though. (too bad it wasn’t lucy, imo).

@mysticheero that’s exactl what I meant, I want to know more about Desmond and get more attached to him before his story ends

I already like most of the modern day people so I’d be bothered if they just left us all high and dry in terms of explainations, but yeah I really do want to get more attached to them – we really do need more modern day stuff.

sad to say, my favourite modern-day character is vidic.

as with the others here, i hope to learn more of desmond from desmond himself, not from his ancestors.

Where did it say that Desmond won’t have a big role? I must have missed the news :(

the article does not explicitly state that desmond will not have a big role. he has. he’s going to “save the world,” as he himself told lucy, remember? the writer is pointing out how, after four games under his sleeve, desmond’s story hasn’t really been that interesting to follow becauise of its pacing and spacing to which some of the above posters have agreed to.

@kuro oh yes Shaun is the best. I love his sarcasm and how much he snarks with Desmond and Rebecca. I loved his “helpful” comments in ACB. Its a shame that Revelations was missing the humour (though I understand why), but hopefuly AC3 will more then make up for it.
